Just for a day...

Just for a day...

I would love to be a cake decorator. I love baking and cooking. How fun would it be to have a bakery?! I think it would be totally fun. I love watching the cake shows. What a fun job, but I would probably only last for a day.

Wouldn't it be fun to be a florist for a day?! I l.o.v.e. flowers. How fun would it be to play with pretty flowers all day and make pretty arrangements? Very fun if you ask me.

Wouldn't it be fun to be a writer, for a day. Just to leisurely write about whatever topic I wish. A romance novel, or a crime, or just my thoughts on whatever topic I like.

Wouldn't it be fun to be a chef for a snazzy restaurant? It would be so fun to create new menu items. And to have all the cool kitchen gadgets at my finger tips!

I would say it would be cool to be a painter, but let's be honest, I am so NOT artistic. But if I actually could draw, it would be totally fun to be a painter.

Wouldn't it be neat to design different publications? To take pictures of check presentations, faculty, and a beautiful campus? Wouldn't it be cool to work for your alma mater? Receive media calls, write press releases, and show important people around campus. Oh wait, that is what I do everyday ;)

Fall is (finally) in the air!

Fall is definitely in the air! It took it a little while, but I think it has arrived. And I am loving it. It is cooler in the morning, it is breezier durning the day and it is not so unbearable to walk across campus. I feel so old saying that. Aren't old people the only people who like Fall? I always thought that growing up. Young kids like summer and old people like Fall. Guess I'm old. But I digress...the real reason for the Fall post is to show off my Fall flowers!

The first picture has my favorite flowers. These are mums (for the flower illiterate). I love that deep red color! The second picture is my window sill. The middle pot has orangey mums and the two little pots have yellow mums! The third picture is another little yellow mum. I chose to get the mums that have not bloomed yet. Hopefully they will last throughout the fall!

Now I can't wait to set the clock back!

Girls Trip, sorta...

Last weekend Mom and I went to see Chris on his last weekend in Houston. So it was a girls trip, sorta. We got in Friday night and of course went straight to Papacitos. YUM! Can't go wrong there and since we don't have one in Louisiana, we always go there. Mom and I shared the best fajitas.

Saturday, we got up and went to The Woodlands. Chris and I discovered a great sushi place last time I was down there so we knew that is where lunch had to be. Of course it didn't open until 12, and I knew just how to kill the time- SHOPPING! I found some cute gold flats, which I have been searching for!! And I very cute top that I can wear to work or out with friends. Yay.

Sushi was yummy and after a quick trip to the mall we headed back so we could watch the LSU game! Thankfully, I napped through most of it, because apparently it was nothing to witness. Boo.

We had 5 p.m. reservations for Melting Pot!! I was so excited about this!! Mom had never been, Chris had been once and I have been once a looooong time ago. I was so excited for Mom to get to try this! (I wish Dad could have been there too) The meal was great, and our waiter. But at the end of the evening we all agreed, we should just come for dessert next time. Because dessert by far was THE best part of the meal.

Preparing for our fondue adventure!
Because everyone wheres a smile like this while dipping cheese. She should be on a fondue box.

We. were. stuffed. Miserably. stuffed. Needless to say, we did nothing the rest of the night but hang out and laugh- at each other. Chris is one of the funniest people I know. I am one of the weirdest people I know. And my Mom is one of the most easily entertained people I know. Put us together and there are LOTS of laughs.

After Jason's Deli Sunday morning Mom and I visited Old Town Spring, a really neat little part of the town we used to live in when we lived in Texas. It also just so happened to be Pet Day. Oh.My.Goodness. They had every breed of dog imaginable available for adoption. Most were rescued animals, who of course had some tragic story and you want to take every.single.animal home. I had long had my heart set on a cocker spaniel. I just love those wavy little ears they have. And I like the thought of adopting a pet. I have had to kitties from the pound. But you don't see too many cocker spaniels at the pound in Shreveport. SO when I saw at least 6 little cocker spaniel pups needing a home, I melted.
Meet Donnie:
I neeeeeeed this dog, or one like it. *sigh* One day...

But enough whining, it was a great weekend. AND FOUR days until Chris is home from Houston!!! Yay!!!!

Favorite YouTubes

I don't do much Internet surfing or YouTube-ing, but if I catch wind of a funny video I like to look them up and have a good laugh. Here are some of my favorites. Most are pretty old and have been around but they are just toooo funny!

Bon Qui Qui at King Burger- I hate to say it...I know every word

David after the Dentist- sounds like me after my trip to the dentist

Model Falls on Runway- What I love about this is that the news casters can't stop laughing!

Serious Baby...Sometimes- I have never, ever seen Chris laugh as hard as he did watching this

Scarlet Takes a Tumble- Why do people film themselves doing things like this??!

Beyonce Clown- I hope this poor girl is ok!

Hide Yo Kids!- hi-lar-iousssss!

Redneck Ninja- my brother introduced this one to me

Friday Five

1. I am so excited about FRIDAY! Especially this Friday! Today is Byrd's homecoming game! Which is exciting enough because I do love my dear high school. BUT before he game I am going to Superior with my best buds from high school! Lauren is coming in from New Orleans, Lindsay is coming over from Ruston, Kelly is temporarily home from Florida, Jac is here, and Brooke is here!! How stinkin exciting is that?!

2. Work....whew, work. I think that is all I can really say about that.

3. Chris has 2, count them TWO, weeks left in mud school!

4. I am back in the Blackberry world!! So happy about that. I will miss the fast browser and quirky, useless games of the iPhone, but if someone else is paying for the Blackberry then I will gladly accept.

5. A good pedicure will do everyone some good. Especially when that tricky oriental lady tricks ya into the "deluxe" package. Eh, what's 10 more bucks? Not much for happy feet :)

TiVo!

I adore TiVo. Love.love.love. It is so convenient. I don't have to worry about catching my favorite shows at the exact time it is on tv. Not that I live this extremely busy and extravagant life, but it is nice to watch whenever I want. And it is also super nice to be able to fast forward through commercials! My TiVo list for a typical week-

Monday- The Bachelor/Bachlorette/Bachelor Pad (whichever happens to be in season)
Tuesday- Law and Order SVU
Wednesday- Comedy Wednesday!= Modern Family, Cougar Town
Thursday- Project Runway and Grey's Anatomy
Friday- DCC: Making the Team
Sunday- The Amazing Race, Keeping up with the Kardashians

Just a few lil shows to make it through the week.

Things, thoughts, and tasks OH MY!

Since I have started my new job, I have about 90 million things (NO, I am actually not exaggerating) going through my head on a daily basis. I told Chris today, it just seems like my day is a tornado and I just happened to survive at the end of everyday. Not a bad tornado (though I don't know if there is a good one..?), but just a wild and crazy right everyday! I can hardly remember what I did at the beginning of the day by the time I am walking to my car! So with out further ado-
Things, thoughts, and tasks that run through my mind:
  • turn off alarm...
  • "Actually put your feet on the ground Jennifer!"
  • Check work phone- whew, no over night e-mails
  • Breakfast and then make it to work.
  • Review yesterday afternoon's emails make sure I didn't forget anything.
  • Begin new day!
  • Send press release
  • Open Chancellor's report draft, send e-mail to get the rest of the needed items
  • Of course somebody always has something to say about a release that has been sent out. Politely reply.
  • Of course, four new e-mails, hold chancellor's report.
  • Answer one, look up answer to one, attach file. And of course I don't know the answer to the next, forward question to JLa.
  • Back to Chancellor's report...
  • NOPE, approve 3 web pages.
  • Conference call for class= 1 hourrrrr
  • Visit Fellowship Luncheon
  • Where was I...? OH Chancellor's report!
  • Phone rings- student want to come chat about the new website and tell me everything that he doesn't agree with...perfect.
  • E-mail
  • E-mail
  • E-mail
  • E-mail
  • E-mail
  • E-mail, you get the point...
  • Where was I??? Chancellor's report!!
  • Ehhhh, send press release.
  • Visit with Athletics
  • Count fallen banners in the parking lot (seriously!)
  • What?! It's 4:15!!?
  • A few final approvals for the website.
  • Oh well, save the one page I did for the Chancellor's report...there's always tomorrow.
  • Walking to the car..."What did I even do today?!"
And that is just one day! In NO way am I whining though! I love this! Ha! As crazy as that sounds. The only thing I worry about is forgetting something or someone. I wouldn't say I am a perfectionist (others may) but I do want to do everything correctly and I don't want anyone thinking I am a slacker or don't care about their department/webpage/press release/picture/whatever. Because I do care, and really I just are about doing a good job!

Run, Jennifer? Run???

So, I will admit there for a while I completely fell off the running wagon. I mean maybe not completely, because I did feel guilty and wanted to run...but I didn't. Oops. But I am trying to get back on the running wagon. I will do the half marathon, eventually.

I really miss my running partner. Even though he was way faster than me, he motivates me and runs with me, at my pace. Such a sweetie.

Anywho... eating healthy and running have both been added back to my daily agenda.

Woo, go me!
