Oklahoma City Part 2

So Saturday was a free day until the wedding that evening. So first on the list…the Mall! We drove to the biggest mall (they had 3!). Things we noticed along the way:
·      There was very little traffic on the interstate. It’s like they have these huge interstates for tons of traffic, but there really isn’t any.
·      After we took our exit to the mall, The roads were incredible. SO smooth and most roads were 6 lanes (3 each way).
·      Traffic that was facing each other (like at a stop light) had green left turn arrows at the same time! This would never work in Shreveport. There would be more accidents than there already are. And many of those turns were double turn lanes! So like, 4 lanes of traffic turning at once.
·      The only reason the above point does work is because everyone drives about 10 miles UNDER the speed limit. Makes for hilarious commentary from Chris, but erratic driving.
·      Oklahoma is VERY, EXTREMELY, WAY windy! Sheesh, it was annoying. I hate wind.
·      Going to other states makes you realize how incredibly flat Louisiana is. I mean there are no hills or anything in LA. OK had lots of undeveloped land, many with rolling hills.
So we found the mall. Did a little window shopping. But did stop in J. Crew and I found two great sales items, Chris of course finds the most expensive pair of shorts in the store, but has to have them. Whatever.

Since we skipped breakfast, we were hungry and had to eat at Cheesecake Factory. But I put my foot down and said no cheesecake! But they do have delicious food. We ate lunch and then made our way down town again. Chris wanted to explore the Oklahoma City Bombing Memorial. I had been once back in 8th grade, but was more than willing to go again.

We walked all around the site and even did the tour inside the museum. It is definitely an American tragedy that is still sad to this day. Can you believe it has been 15 years? One hundred and sixty eight people died that day. Very sad but the memorial and museum is incredible.

We drove around Brick Town a little more and then headed back to the hotel to rest. We made it to the wedding, which was lovely. Congrats to Andrew and Diana!

Oklahoma City Part 1

This weekend Chris and I went to a friend’s wedding in Oklahoma City. It was about a 6 and a half hour drive from Shreveport, but well worth it. When we go anywhere new, we really like to explore and try new things, and definitely eat at new places we don’t have in Shreveport. I took in so many insights of the city of the state of Oklahoma.

Ready to go!
We arrived Friday around 3 or 4 (yes I took off work). We sorta skipped lunch so we were starved! We headed to Bricktown, which is a neat little area of downtown OKC filled with restaurants, nightlife, a Triple A Baseball field and a few shopping spots. We decided (it didn’t take much convincing) to have a nice dinner at Mickey Mantel’s Steakhouse. I am not a steak person, but this food was delicious!!  I had the regular fillet off the menu and Chris had the bone-in fillet special. Both were fabulous. Mine had a red wine demi sauce and Chris’ had a yummy sweet flavor. Neither of us can remember what the sauce was, but it had just a hint of sweet that was so good. And of course dessert was next. All desserts are made in house, except the cheesecake, which is flown in from New York. Awesome. Chris is pretty much obsessed with cheesecake, so we went with that. Very yummy. So after we had gained 10 pounds apiece, we walked around Brick Town a bit. Most things weren’t open yet, so we headed back to the hotel to see if any other friends had arrived.

After Dinner
I hate indecisiveness, and boy was there a lot of that that night. It’s hard to please an entire group of people. But NO one could decide what to do that night. We ended up walking to some not so lovely restaurant. What the point of that was, I am not sure because all we did was sit there and snack on food. Pointless. Maybe I was just cranky from the trip. Who knows. But I was over “Twin Peaks” (no, I am not kidding) in a hurry. Side note: Twin Peaks is basically a mountaineer version of Hooters. Get it? Yeah….The waitresses wore fur boots. Tragic. I just wanted to tell each one of them, “You are better than this!”  So back to the hotel we went to get some rest for a full day of exploring on Saturday!

Recap

It has been a few weeks and while it seems that everything was going on, nothing really was. Like you are so busy but at the same time not... or is that just me?

Any who, Dad and I ran ANOTHER 5K! But this one just about did both Dad and me in. It.was.brutal. It was the same course as the Mudbug Madness, but I honestly think it was a million degrees hotter! Oh my goodness, was it hot!We finished in about 34 minutes. Which was 6 minutes faster than the last time I ran that course, but 3 minutes slower than the one we ran the Saturday before! I really think it was the heat. I declared I am throwing in the towel on evening races, unless they are in January.

This was taken after the race in my car. H.O.T.
Chris and I FINALLY went and picked out tuxes! I say finally because we have been putting it off foreverrrrr. And We are like month away and the boys were going to be necked at the wedding. Unacceptable. So we went and I, I mean he, ok WE, no really I picked out the classic black and white suite. Nothing too fancy but I think he will look perfect!

In Squires. (minus the hat!!)
Then Chris was gone for forever. I am just continuing to work out and work and go home. A pretty steady routine.

I really need to work on my syllabus for my fall class. But I am also thoroughly enjoying reading books that are not text books! It is a glorious feeling.

Chris and I are going to a wedding this weekend in Oklahoma City. Should be a fun little road trip and a chance to catch up with friends.

That pretty much bring us up to speed.

37 DAYS!!!

Another 5K

Dad and I ran another 5K this morning! Dad is all about running these days. So he found a 5K for us to run this morning. The race was to raise money for a little boy with encephalitis. So sweet little boy, with such a sad story.

Any who, we got up and ran this morning. And I must say we did quite well. We didn't quite run the whole thing but we did really well. Our unofficial time is 31:42! I took about 4 minutes off my last 5K. I didn't get nay pictures, but that's ok. Let's just say I was super sweaty!!!

I much as I think to myself around mile 2 "Why the heck did I sign up for this?!" I really enjoy the 5Ks. It's a short(er) distance, quick and easy right? I love the way my body feels after. I feel so accomplished. So...buff. I know this is far from the truth, but the more you believe it, the easier it is to make it a reality.

Just when I thought...

Just when I thought my life would slow down...it's time to buy a house. And oh.my.goodness. does that entail a LOT of work and money and time.

First you have to scrub your current house top to bottom. Which is a horrendous task. Or you can pay someone to scrub it, but that means you have to pick everything up first. Which is also a horrendous task. You begin to realize how much um, crap stuff, you have accumulated.  I guess that is why my friend Rachel enjoys moving...to avoid collecting, stuff.

Anyone who knows me knows I do not speak money or mortgages or anything that has to do with important decision making. My philosophy is: that's what Daddy's are for. But I'm pretty sure I am to the point where Daddy can't always be there, unfortunately. But I am hoping that that transfer of power will go from Daddy to Chris. Also unfortunate, is that Chris works 7 on 7 off. Meaning he is gone for 7 days straight. And since he is such a little smarty pants, he also get called away early and gets to stay away longer! Good think for our bank account, not so good for trying to make important decisions I know nothing about. Ugh.

The word mortgage makes my head spins. I don't know anything about anything and would really prefer to keep it that way- that's what Daddys soon to be husbands are for. But life happens and now I am learning about mortgages. Ugh.

And just when I had read all I wanted about FHA, credit scores and down payments, this little gem was delivered to my office:

Ahhhh, perfect timing. Perfect flowers, perfect man for me.
