This week is CHRISTMAS!!! I adore Christmas! Everything about it!!! The chill in the air, the snuggling, the apple cider, the giving gifts, and getting gifts. But most importantly, Christmas is the CELEBRATION of the birth of my Savior! Hallelujah!
My other favorite thing about Christmas is the songssssss! I love Christmas music! I have always wanted to see the Trans Siberian Orchestra. They have come to Shreveport for the past several years, but I have yet to make it to a concert. I love this:
Another classic Christmas song is Away in a Manger. I love this song. One of my favorite things to do is sit down and really look at the words of a song.
Away in a manger,No crib for His bed
The little Lord Jesus
Laid down His sweet head
The stars in the bright sky
Looked down where He lay
The little Lord Jesus
Asleep on the hay
The cattle are lowing
The poor Baby wakes
But little Lord Jesus
No crying He makes
I love Thee, Lord Jesus
Look down from the sky
And stay by my side,
'Til morning is nigh.
Be near me, Lord Jesus,
I ask Thee to stay
Close by me forever
And love me I pray
Bless all the dear children
In Thy tender care
And take us to heaven
To live with Thee there
My favorite part of this song is the last three stanzas. It is so comforting to know Jesus is looking down form the sky and staying by my side; staying close by me forever and loving me. What a joyous song for the Christmas season!
I found a neat website with a little history on Christmas Carol, www.carols.org.
Fun Facts:
Away in a Manger was originally published in 1885. The publication of Away in a Manger was in a Lutheran Sunday school book and this created the misconception that the lyrics of Away in a Manger were actually written by Martin Luther himself. The author is unknown. The music to Away in a Manger was composed by William J. Kirkpatrick in 1895.
